Jordon Ross, the "Top Gun" of the Hoosier Canoe Club teaches my dad and I basic paddling skills on the Lower Yough River in PA. He shows us how to catch eddies and peel out properly, how to surf and enter surfing waves, how to ferry and the various ferrying techniques, etc. We also get a great example of how to practice skills and make the most of rivers in a learning sort of way. These sorts of exercises prepare a kayaker to move up to the next level of difficulty in rivers after being able to master them at your current difficulty level.
